N.B. Never put antler directly between the jaws of the vice, because of the danger of indentation of the antler. Leather is a suitable shim between the jaws of the vice. The leather will not only prevent indentation, but it also provides a good friction grip on the antler. There is also a rubber-faced magnetic shim that works well.
